Live Support to Improve Conversions

A common theme in small business forums and newsgroups when discussing eCommerce sites are posts that start with “I’ve had x,000 visitors to my site but haven’t sold anything, what am I doing wrong?”.

Sadly, selling on-line isn’t (just) about visitors, but conversions. Getting a customer to look at a product is one hurdle, but by far the more important one is getting them to actually part with their cash! This is where many come unstuck.

One great way of trying to do this is to add a live element to your site. This can be in the form of an interactive blog or even a forum (where appropriate). Both of these methods can work well, but they require building a longer term relationship with your customers, and for certain items this really doesn’t make good sense. This is where facilities like “live support”, “live helpdesk” or “online customer services” can really make a difference.

Here’s a quick and dirty solution for PrestaShop :

PrestaShop CraftSyntax Live Help v0.1 (zip archive)

Why not try it and see if it makes a difference to your eShop?

ok… basically that didnt work… lol

find the SCRIPT line in cs_livehelp.tpl…

    inline find: {$secure}
    after add: &username={$customerName}

    Enjoy!

This mod is lacking (only slightly) due to the fact that livehelp can not tell who are logged in customers from regular guests.

Here’s a way to get customer names (rather than ip addresses) in the live help traffic overview…

    Edit cs_livehelp.tpl

    Find:-

    Change to:-

Obviously you will still only get ip addresses for those who are not customers / not logged in.

    Enjoy.

    Thanks for the mod ecartservice!!!

The download does not work. Neither zip file could be opened. Is there a way that this could be repackaged?

    Thanks.

Når jeg henter zip versionen fejler den når jeg vil pakke den ud. Når jeg vil hente 7 versionen får jeg først en side med at det ikke er oversat, efterfølgende en side med en masse vollapyk?.

    Hi AngelOfHavoc,

That sounds like a bug. It should show the linked images to kick off the support session or prompt to leave a message if live support is offline. If you can raise a ticket with the site url I’ll take a look at what it’s producing on the front page.

    Hi Paul,

Firstly, thanks for help last time.
Secondly, I installed the cs_livehelp system as instructed. Anything runs ok. however, in the prestashop frond-site home, I can’t see any offline image or anything in the Need Help? box (on the left column after enable the livehelp module). I looked at cs_livehelp.tpl, it is just a javascript to call another page. Is it supposted showing you a image with operator offline? I did try logon to the back end site of livehellp. But it didnot show anything still.

Did I miss doing something or there was a bug with it?

    Your help will be appreicated.

By the way, for the support center in this site, is it powered by etick system or atick system or osTick system?

    Thank you

    AngelOfHavoc

I’ll add a download link for a zip version of the archive too. Some users had problems downloading it though, hence the switch to the ‘7s’ format.

I just uninstalled my 7s weeks ago due to lack of usage… now I come to you with this…. Instead of reinstalling the 7s again, any one has a zip or rar copy for download?

That’s very strange Sam. I’ll have a look at replicating it here and get back to you.

I have checked the file paths and the php and the file is definately there…. whats going on?

Sam, it uses 7-Zip which is a free archive program. There was a problem with certain anti-virus programs causing problems with the zip version (AVG for one didn’t like downloading it).

7-zip is the best archive program out there in any case, as it also handles Unix tar archives….

When you download this file… it comes out corrupted. It asks you to specify a program with which to open it.

I assumed it was a .zip file and changed the extension, but it said that it was corrupted… what extension is correct for this file?
